SVG Motor Sport enjoyed a very successful weekend at Silverstone. The team, and Phil McGarty, probably had their best weekend yet in the Ginetta GRDC+ championship with two fourth places.
Friday testing went well for Phil, the whole day was run in beautiful weather conditions with temperatures reaching the high twenties, it felt like summer had finally arrived.
Phil put the car in Fifth spot on Saturday morning, his highest qualifying place of the year. The first race saw Phil and the fourth place man having a race long battle for the fourth place with Phil making the place up on the last lap.
Sunday morning came and so did the rain! The morning race looked like it might be dry but when we got to the collection area it started to rain so the team and Phil decided to make some changes to the car. Phil made a great start and was up to third place which he held onto right until the last lap. Unfortunately, with the rain getting harder, he had a bit of slide through a corner and was overhauled by the chasing Richard Eliker. But with another fourth place finish the team felt it had been a good race overall.
The second Sunday race was a really tough call for all to make as the rain was on and off. As the car was sitting in the collection area and with a nice patch of blue sky overhead Phil and the team stuck to a dry setting. The race started and Phil was holding his own in fourth place but the heavens opened in what was monsoon rain conditions. Phil, unfortunately, had a massive spin dropping him down to ninth place and soon after the race was abandoned so he had no time to make a recovery.
Richard Tetlow in the SVG-backed GRDC car claimed his first pole position and went on to finish an excellent second.
